Learning Goal: I’m working on a writing report and need an explanation and answer to help me learn.
BEFORE YOU START WRITING THE ESSAY TELL ME WHAT AUTHOR YOU WILL WRITE ABOUT, IN THE COMMENTS!!!!
_________________________________________________________________________________________
Instructions:
It’s only 4 pages long, not including the title page, thesis statement/ outline page and Works Cited page, total of seven pages.
Pick any writer of literature. That means NOT pulp fiction; you must pick a writer with some lasting and meaningful impact. You will choose to write about either their life, their work, or a combination of their life and work. You will be looking up research about what others have written ABOUT them, which is called literary criticism.
You will not use sources written BY your writer, so when you do the research it’s “subject,” and the author’s name. You will have exactly four sources included in your paper, no more, no less. All sources have to be from the MDC library database or Google Scholar, and look for FULL TEXT sources, not abstracts. To get into it, you put in your normal log in information and the last four digits of your student number are your pin. You will have exactly two one sentence direct quotes from each of your sources in the body of your paper, so exactly eight one sentence quotes in MLA style. All writing must be your own, unless something has quotes around it, which is only going to be the eight sentences.

Here is how you do the quotes, two one sentence quotes per source mixed in with your essay:Dickinson (refer to writer by last name once you introduce the person at the beginning) was prone to be by herself. “Many would see her in the woods and field, observing and gathering information about nature” (Osgood 124).
_________________________________________________________________________________________
As you can see, the quotes go outside of the parentheses; Osgood would be the author of the quote’s last name. If there is no author, write the title of the article. If there is no page number, leave it off.You will NOT have footnotes, just the quotes that appear in the body of your regular essay, and you will sprinkle them around randomly like a chef. Once the paper is finished 7-8 pages because you have the title page, thesis statement/ outline page, 4-5 page essay itself, and Works Cited page.
