You must attend the Memorial Service for someone you did not know. I want you to observe the various tasks being performed by the funeral home staff, the funeral director, clergy, and the family and friends of the decedent. You should arrive to the memorial service about 15-20 minutes early, this allows you to people watch prior to the service starting. You will need to stay until the entire service is complete. Part TWO: Reflection paper: Write a paper describing what you saw and what you think of it and how your experience illustrates concepts that we have learned in class so far (“connections” are the biggest thing I am looking for). There are a host of things occurring at a funeral at any given moment, I want to use this project as a method to understand the value of the funeral, not just for funeral directors and milies but for all participants involved.
